  • Encyclopedia of Life (EOL)
    The admirable ambition of EOL is to create a website with species pages for all living organisms on Earth. It is still in the planning phase, but with initial funding now in place. First set of authenticated species pages expected to be available by the middle of 2008. Sample pages and information on the update progress are available at www.eol.org.

  • English common names of reptiles
    A survey of English common names used for reptiles. Includes all the world's approximately 10,000 currently known species.

  • Hexacorallians of the World
    A website containing information on sea anemones, corals, and their allies.
  • IUCN Red List of Threatened Species
    An evaluation of the conservation status of many of the world's plant and animal species. Includes the Global Amphibian Assessment, the first-ever comprehensive status assessment of the world’s approx. 6,300 known amphibian species, all assessed against the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria, including range maps. More than 500 scientists from 60 countries contributed to the initial three-year amphibian study, which is continuously being updated. Although currently not comprehensive, the site also includes assessment of a large number of reptile species, many of which include range maps.
  • Mammal Species of the World
    A survey of the world's mammal species. Maintained by the American Society of Mammalogists.
  • Societas Europaea Herpetologica (SEH)
    A Pan-European network of herpetological societies and institutions. Publishes the quarterly journal Amphibia-Reptilia. Some of SEH's publications can be downloaded for free along with distribution maps of European reptiles and amphibians.
  • RepFocus
     A systematic checklist of all the world's reptile species with detailed description of each species' distribution. More than 1,000 regional species checklists, including all the world's nations, many states. provinces, islands, etc. Also includes the most comprehensive bibliography of the world's reptiles ever published.

    (previously the TIGR Reptile Database or the EMBL Reptile Database)     Another survey of the world's reptile species and their systematics. Continuously updated by volunteers, including members of DGHT, the well-known, German herpetological society.

    A network of databases containing information on various groups of animals and other living organisms.
