Chironex fleckeri
Box Jellyfish

Preserved specimen.
The only venomous animal that kan kill a human in 2-3 minutes. Stings cause extreme pain but not all are fatal. Found in northern Australian waters, mainly between October and May.

"Chiropsalmus" Jellyfish

Preserved specimen.
Not as large as the box jellyfish (Chironex fleckeri), but can give a painful sting. Found on the west side of the Gulf of Carpentaria from about May to July.

"Irukandji" Jellyfish

Preserved specimen.
This jellyfish has a relatively mild initial sting, but extremely painful muscle cramps, along with shaking and high anxiety, can follow within an hour.

A recently described jellyfish found in Darwin harbour in the wet season. Its sting is painful but not life threatening.
