Mella Ávila (2023) suggested that penai is a synonym of gaudichaudii, but molecular confirmation is needed.
Presence in Bolivia is regarded as unclear herein.
Reported from the country by several authors (all as dorbignii) (e.g., Kluge 1964; Peters & Donoso-Barros 1970; Fugler 1989; Dirksen 1995; Dirksen & Riva 1999; Pincheira-Donoso 2002;
Langstroth 2005).
However, Mella Ávila (2023) considered gaudichaudii endemic to Chile.
