Remarks: Regarded as a synonym of occipitalis by some (e.g., Peters & Donoso-Barros 1970), but as a valid species by Mertens (1956) and Ortiz (1989). Although the exact origin of the type is unknown (apart from being in Peru), it is here included in Microlophus, based on its close affinities with occipitalis.
