Taxonomy of the family Tropiduridae
Bibliography of the genus Strobilurus
Biodiversity of the family Tropiduridae

Genus
Strobilurus

Collared Spiny-tailed Iguana

Halsband-Dornschwanzleguan

Halsbånd-tornhaleleguan

1834 Strobilurus Wiegmann (type species: Strobilurus torquatus Wiegmann 1834)
Contents: 1 species, which is endemic.
Endemism: 0% 100%
Remarks: Frost (1992) regarded Strobilurus as a synonym of Tropidurus, but he later reversed the arrangement (Frost, Rodrigues, Grant & Titus 2001). If Strobilurus were treated as a synonym of Tropidurus, Strobilurus torquatus would be referred to as Tropidurus strobilurus Frost 1992, because the name torquatus is preoccupied by Stellio torquatus [=Tropidurus torquatus] Wied 1820.
Distribution: As for the single species.

Strobilurus torquatus

Collared Spiny-tailed Iguana

Halsband-Dornschwanzleguan

Halsbånd-tornhaleleguan

1834 Strobilurus torquatus Wiegmann
Steironotus torquatus Fitzinger 1843
1855 Doryphorus spinosus Guichenot (Peters & Donoso-Barros 1970)
1992 Tropidurus strobilurus Frost [substitute name for Strobilurus torquatus Wiegmann 1834]

Distribution: Brazil (Alagoas, Bahia, Ceara, Espirito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraiba, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Sergipe).
