Taxonomy of the family Homalopsidae
Bibliography of the genus Sumatranus
Biodiversity of the family Homalopsidae

Genus
Sumatranus

White-spotted Mud Snake

Weissfleckige Schlammnatter

Hvidplettet Muddersnog

2014 Sumatranus Murphy & Voris (type species: Homalopsis albo-maculatus Dumeril, Bibron & Dumeril 1854)
Contents: 1 species, which is endemic.
Endemism: 0% 100%
Remarks: The single species of this genus was previously placed in Enhydris (e.g., Murphy 2007). In their description of Sumatranus, the authors claimed the grammatical gender of the name to be feminine, but presumably in error, since they retained the ending of the specific epithet of the only species in the genus as "-us" (masculine), not "-a" (feminine). Moreover, had it been feminine, the genus name should have been Sumatrana.
Distribution: As for the single species.

Sumatranus albomaculatus

White-spotted Mud Snake, White-spotted Water Snake, (Sumatran Mud Snake)

Weissfleckige Schlammnatter

Hvidplettet Muddersnog

1854 Homalopsis albo-maculatus Dumeril, Bibron & Dumeril
Hypsirhina albomaculata Jan 1863
Enhydris albomaculatus Haas 1950
Sumatranus albomaculatus Murphy & Voris 2014

Remarks: Presence in Java doubtful (reported by Gyi 1970, but presumably in error, according to Murphy 2007).
Distribution: Indonesia (Nias, Simeulue).
