Contents: 20 species, of which 12 (60.0%) are endemic.
Remarks: This genus is one of the South American snake genera in most need of revision, and many literature records are difficult to refer to any currently recognized species (Cacciali, Scott, Aquino-Ortiz, Fitzgerald & Smith 2016). At least for some species, the given distributions must be considered provisional.

Remarks: This species represents what was previously regarded as Atlantic forest populations of pallidus.

Remarks: See hypoconia. Records from the Atlantic coast of Brazil refer to almae (Bailey, Thomas & da Silva 2005). Records from Mato Grosso do Sul need confirmation (Ferreira, Terra, Piatti, Delatorre, Strüssmann, Béda, Kawashita-Ribeiro, Landgref-Filho, Aoki, Campos, Souza, Ávila, Duleba, Martins, Rita & Albuquerque 2017). Some authors regard nattereri as a separate species (e.g., Marques & Sazima 2004; Centeno, Sawaya & Marques 2008; Costa, Pantoja, Pontes & Feio 2010; Forlani, Bernardo, Haddad & Zaher 2010; Araujo & Almeida-Santos 2011; Hamdan & Lira-da-Silva 2012).

Remarks: Brazilian range of this species is unclear. Bailey & Thomas (2007) listed the only specimen know from the country at that time from "Roraima(?)". Presence there needs confirmation. Since then it has been documented from Para. Records of the genus Thamnodynastes from Roraima are herein tentatively assigned to ramonriveroi.
