Remarks: Previously regarded as a synonym of Mabuya (e.g., Loveridge 1957). Revalidated by Mausfeld, Schmitz, Böhme, Misof, Vrcibradic & Rocha (2002).
Distribution: Cape Verde (Boa Vista, Fogo, Santo Antao, Sao Nicolau, Sao Vicente).

Remarks: Previously included nicolauensis. In spite of its specific epithet, fogoensis is known with certainty only from Santo Antão. Records from Fogo and São Vicente are presumably in error (Miralles, Vasconcelos, Perera, Harris & Carranza 2011).
