King Cobra
Size: 5.50-5.80 m SVL. In Borneo the record is 2.62 m.
Reproduction: The female builds a mound nest by using body and tail to push leaf litter together. After the eggs are laid, the female guards the nest. Clutch size is 24 eggs which hatch after 63 days. The hatchlings measure 0.29-0.42 m. They have pale yellow or orange bands that may or may not persist in adults.
Diet: Diet consists almost exclusively of other snakes, but monitor lizards (Varanus) are occasionally taken.

Medical importance: There are only few recorded attacks on humans. The venom glands are enormous and contain enough venom to kill an elephant.
Etymology:
Other notes: Great diversity in colouration, scalation, and body proportions. Due to its large variation, it has been suggested that the King Cobra is in fact a species complex which may eventually be split into several species.
