Taxonomy of the family Uropeltidae
Bibliography of the genus Platyplectrurus
Biodiversity of the family Uropeltidae

Genus
Platyplectrurus

Broad-tailed Shieldtails

Breitschwanz-Schildschwänze

Bredhalede Skjoldhaler

1868 Platyplectrurus Günther (type species: Plectrurus trilineatus Beddome 1867)
1925 Wallia Werner (type species: Wallia inexspectata Werner 1925; syn. Pyron, Ganesh, Sayyed, Sharma, Wallach & Somaweera 2016
Contents: 2 species, both of which are endemic.
Endemism: 0% 100%
Distribution: India (Kerala, Tamil Nadu).

Platyplectrurus madurensis

Kodaikanal Shieldtail, (Madurai Shieldtail)

Kodaikanal-Schildschwanz, (Madurai-Schildschwanz)

Kodaikanal-skjoldhale, (Madurai-skjoldhale)

1877 Platyplectrurus madurensis Beddome
1925 Wallia inexspectata Werner (Pyron, Ganesh, Sayyed, Sharma, Wallach & Somaweera 2016)
1954 Plectrurus ruhunae Deraniyagala (Pyron, Ganesh, Sayyed, Sharma, Wallach & Somaweera 2016)
Platyplectrurus madurensis ruhunae Deraniyagala 1955
Platyplectrurus madurensis ruhanae [unjustified emendation] Gans 1966

Remarks: Although the taxon ruhunae was described on the basis of a specimen that allegedly came from Galle, Sri Lanka, this is probably a misunderstanding. According to Pyron, Ganesh, Sayyed, Sharma, Wallach & Somaweera (2016), it more likely came from Madurai, India. There has been no other records of the genus Platyplectrurus from Sri Lanka.
Distribution: India (Kerala, Tamil Nadu).

Platyplectrurus trilineatus

Three-lined Shieldtail

Dreistreifen-Schildschwanz

Trestribet Skjoldhale

1867 Plectrurus ? trilineatus Beddome
Platyplectrurus trilineatus Günther 1868
1886 Platyplectrurus bilineatus Beddome (Pyron, Ganesh, Sayyed, Sharma, Wallach & Somaweera 2016)

Remarks: Srinivasulu, Srinivasulu & Ganesan (2013) suggested that the presence of this species in Kerala, which is based on a record from 'Madras Hills, Travancore' (Smith 1943 - and presumably perpetuated by Murthy 1985; Palot & Radhakrishnan 2003; Easa & Ramachandran 2004; Palot 2015) could be erroneous.
Distribution: India (Kerala, Tamil Nadu).
