Uropeltis pardalis Kelaart (Pyron, Ganesh, Sayyed, Sharma, Wallach & Somaweera 2016) |
Remarks:
Until recently placed in a separate genus and referred to as Pseudotyphlops philippinus.
When Pseudotyphlops was synonymized with Rhinophis (Pyron, Ganesh, Sayyed, Sharma, Wallach & Somaweera 2016), a new species name was needed for
philippinus since there was already another species in the genus with the same specific epithet, Rhinophis philippinus (see above).
The latter species was described earlier than Pseudotyphlops philippinus, which gives it nomenclatural priority.
The next available name for Pseudotyphlops philippinus was Uropeltis saffragamus, thus making Pseudotyphlops philippinus
become Rhinophis saffragamus.
Distribution:
Sri Lanka.
