Remarks:
Now restricted to Morocco.
Previously included the populations now assigned to elmoudenii, harrisii, slimanii, and splendidus (Javanmardi, Vogler & Joger 2019).
Formerly regarded itself as a synonym of mauritanicus (e.g., Bons & Pasteur 1957).
Suggested to represent a separate species by some authors (e.g., Bons & Geniez 1996; Schleich, Kästle & Kabisch 1996; Padial 2006).
Validity confirmed by Rato & Harris (2008).
A record from Mauritania (Mahe 1985 in Geniez & Bons 1996) was based on misidentified
Tropiocolotes tripolitanus (Padial 2006).
