Remarks: Duellman (1958c) considered the type locality (Cofradía, Jalisco) to be an error based on confusion between two different villages of the same name, and he restricted it to Cofradía in Michoacan.

Remarks: Although included for Jalisco by Cruz-Sáenz, Guerrero, Lazcano & Télles-López (2009), presence in the state is considered undocumented herein, following Cruz-Sáenz, Muñoz-Nolasco, Mata-Silva, Johnson, García-Padilla & Wilson (2017), who did not list the species for Jalisco.

Remarks: Aquirre-L., Morafka & Murphy (1999) and Grismer (1999) placed microscutatus in the synonymy of nigricauda, but Feldman, Flores-Villela & Papenfuss (2011) retained them as separate species, pending further studies.
