Remarks:
Collins (1991) and suggested recognition of stejnegeri as a separate species. So did Upton & Murphy (1997) who restricted the name stejnegeri to the population in Durango, however, that taxon has its type locality in the USA, so it is not treated as a separate species here, pending further studies, and following several other authors (e.g., Crother, Boundy & al. 2003; Queiroz & Reeder in Crother (ed.) 2008). Also stellata has been treated as a separate species (e.g., Liner 1994), as well as taylori (e.g., Smith & Taylor 1950).

[incl.
Isla Cedros,
