Remarks: Regarded as a synonym of Atheris by some authors (e.g., Lenk, Kalayabina, Wink & Joger 2001; Wallach, Williams & Boundy 2014), but as a valid genus by others (e.g., Broadley 1996; Rasmussen & Howell 1998; David & Ineich 1999; Dobiey & Vogel 2007), based on general morphological and ecological differences to all other bush vipers.
Distribution: As for the single species.
