Remarks: For more than one and a half century, this species was believed to be known from only a single specimen collected in Paramaribo, Surinam, but an additional two specimens were identified in a collection of snakes from the Porto Real area, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Hoogmoed 1997). Subsequently, aurata was shown to be identical with the species until then referred to as Uromacerina ricardinii, which then became a synonym of aurata (Hoogmoed, Fernandes, Kucharzewski, Moura-Leite, Bérnils, Entiauspe-Neto & Santos 2019).
Distribution: Brazil (Bahia, Ceara, Espirito Santo, Minas Gerais, Para, Parana, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Sao Paulo), Surinam.
