Remarks: Although well established as English common name, Kirtland's Snake is hereby proposed replaced with Ohio Valley Water Snake in the struggle to eliminate patronyms in English common names of reptiles. The replacement name reflects the species' distribution of which a large part lies within the drainage area of the Ohio River.
Distribution: USA (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee).
