Remarks: Previously assigned to the families Aniliidae (e.g., Goin, Goin & Zug 1978), Pythonidae, or Xenopeltidae. Now placed in its own, separate family, Loxocemidae (e.g., McDowell 1975; Smith, Smith & Sawin 1977; Grazziotin, Zaher, Ferrarezzi, Klaczko, Bonatto & Wilkinson 2007; Pyron, Burbrink & Wiens 2013).
Distribution: As for the single species.
