Remarks:
The type material of Lygisaurus foliorum (which is lost, but described in fairly great detail) has recently (Ingram & Covacevich 1988) been suggested to be identical with the lizard traditionally known as Carlia burnetti (see below). As a consequence, the lizard traditionally referred to as Carlia foliorum is now known as
Carlia munda, the next taxonomically available name.

Lygisaurus novaeguineae Ingram & Covacevich 1988 (see remarks) |
Remarks:
This taxon has a history of confusion (Kraus 2007), mainly due to the loss of the type specimen and the meager original description. Ingram & Covacevich (1988) stated that "the species name novaeguineae cannot be applied convincingly to any of the Lygisaurus known from New Guinea. Clarification of the identity of the name will require review of the large collections of Lygisaurus species from that country". Provisionally, Allison, Bickford, Richards & Torr (1998) noted that the name novaeguineae has been in widespread use "for the Lygisaurus" inhabiting the south coast of New Guinea. Kraus (2007) designated a neotype and clarified of the status of the species and its close relatives, curta and macfarlani. As currently understood, novaeguineae is known with certainty only from western New Guinea. Australian records (e.g., Cogger, Cameron & Cogger 1983) refer to macfarlani.
