Remarks: Savage (2015) pointed out that the correct name of this family is Pareidae, not Pareatidae, as seen in older works (e.g., Zaher, Grazziotin, Cadle, Murphy, Moura-Leite & Bonatto 2009; Vidal, Delmas, David, Cruaud, Couloux & Hedges 2007; Grazziotin, Zaher, Murphy, Scrocchi, Benavides, Zhang & Bonatto 2012; Pyron, Burbrink & Wiens 2013). Includes the genus Xylophis, formerly assigned to the family Xenodermidae.

Distribution:  SE. Asia, Malay Archipelago.
