Remarks: Previously regarded as a synonym of dimidiatus (e.g., Kofron 1990). Treated as a valid species by subsequent works (e.g., Savage & McDiarmid 1992; Köhler 1999; Arteaga & Batista 2023). Formerly included the populations now assigned to canopy, irmelindicaprioae, and marleyae.

Remarks: Taxonomy of nebulatus is still pending further studies. It probably represents a species complex. Formerly included the populations now assigned to hartwegi, leucomelas, and vieirai. Although stating that the species is absent from Guyana by Kuijpers (2024), the author plotted localities within the country in the distribution map.
