Reported from Oman by some authors (e.g., Macey, Ananjeva, Wang & Papenfuss 1997; Sindaco & Jeremchenko 2008),
however, the species was not included by Gardner (2013) or by Carranza, Els & Burriel-Carranza (2021).
Although reported from Qatar by several authors (e.g., Szczerbak & Golubev 1996; Macey, Ananjeva, Yuezhao & Papenfuss 1997; Sindaco & Jeremchenko 2008),
it has not been confirmed from the country (Gardner 2013; Zwanzig & Grossmann 2015).

Remarks:
Previously included keyserlingii and rustamowi. Records from the Arabian Peninsula, Pakistan, and parts of Iran and Afghanistan refer to keyserlingii. Taxonomic status of toksunicus is uncertain. It was regarded as a synonym of scincus by Kluge (2001). Not mentioned by Kluge (1993), Zhao & Adler (1993), Macey, Wang, Ananjeva, Larson & Papenfuss (1999), or Macey, Fong, Kuehl, Shafiei, Ananjeva, Papenfuss & Boore (2005), but regarded as a valid species by some authors (e.g., Zhao, Chang, Zhao & Adler 2000).
