Taxonomy of the family Colubridae
Bibliography of the genus Thalesius
Biodiversity of the family Colubridae

Genus
Thalesius

Guiana Green Snake

Guiana-Grünnatter

Grøn Guianasnog

1924 Procteria Werner (preoccupied by Procteria Davis 1885 (Coelenterata); type species: Procteria viridis Werner 1924)
1993 Thalesius Ferreira-Yuki (substitute name for Procteria Werner 1924)
Contents: 1 species, which is not endemic.
Endemism: 0% 100%
Remarks: Validity of Thalesius is disputed. The single species of this genus is sometimes placed in the genus Xenodon under the name Xenodon werneri. Although nested within (and thus synonymous with) Xenodon (Zaher, Grazziotin, Cadle, Murphy, Moura-Leite & Bonatto 2009; Pyron, Burbrink & Wiens 2013; Wallach, Williams & Boundy 2014), it is retained herein as a separate genus, following Avila-Pires, Hoogmoed & Rocha (2010).
Distribution: As for the single species.

Thalesius viridis

Guiana Green Snake

Guiana-Grünnatter

Grøn Guianasnog

1924 Procteria viridis Werner
Thalesius viridis Ferreira-Yuki 1993
1963 Xenodon werneri Eiselt [substitute name for Procteria viridis Werner 1924] (Ferreira-Yuki 1993)

Remarks: Peters & Orejas-Miranda (1970) did not treat this taxon as a valid species, although citing Eiselt's (1963) paper, in which the author recognized the taxon under the name Xenodon werneri. It was regarded as a separate species by Gasc & Rodrigues (1980) and Chippaux (1986), and later separated from the genus Xenodon in the new genus Thalesius (under the revalidated species name viridis).
Distribution: Brazil (Amapa, Para), French Guiana, Surinam.
