| |
Rhabdophis firthi Wall 1923 |
Remarks:
Previously regarded as a synonym of platyceps (e.g., Smith 1943).
Revalidated as a separate species by Malnate (1966).
Nevertheless, some authors have continued to regard it as a synonym of platyceps, but without discussion (Kramer 1977; Schleich & Kästle (eds.) 2002),
or possibly just overlooked the revalidation (Kästle, Rai & Schleich 2013, who did not mention sieboldii).
Presence in Myanmar is based on a single specimen from Taunggyi in the Shan Plateau, which seems doubtful, considering the far distance to other records of the species
(Wall 1923; Malnate 1966).
Not listed for China by Wang, Ren, Chen, Lyu, Guo, Jiang, Chen, Li, Guo, Wang & Che (2020).
Not mentioned for Punjab by Singh, Dutta & Singh (2021).
The exact range of the two sibling species platyceps and sieboldii is unclear, since it seems that some confusion between the species may have occurred (Khan & Papenfuss 2016).
The distribution maps should be considered provisional.
