Remarks: Previously included in Liophis (e.g., Williams & Wallach 1989). Revalidated by Zaher, Grazziotin, Cadle, Murphy, Moura-Leite & Bonatto (2009), but this action was considered premature by Curcio, Piacentini & Fernandes (2009).

Remarks: Previously included elegantissimus. Only a single, confirmed record of this species from Paraguay, which lacks exact locality data (Cacciali, Scott, Aquino-Ortiz, Fitzgerald & Smith 2016; Panzera, Guerrero & Manayro 2017). Presence in this country is herein regarded as unconfirmed, following the latter authors. Other records from Paraguay as well as several from Argentina are based on misidentifications of other species (almadensis, ceii, vanzolinii) (Panzera, Guerrero & Manayro 2017). Known in Brazil only from Rio Grande do Sul. Records from other states are considered erroneous (Costa & Bérnils 2018).
Distribution: Argentina, Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul), Uruguay.
