Remarks: Previously included Dipsina multimaculata, Rhamphiophis maradiensis (now considered a synonym of Rhagerhis moilensis), Psammophylax acutus, and P. togoensis.
Distribution: SubSaharan Africa.
Reported from: Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo-Kinshasa, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa (Limpopo, Mpumalanga), South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania (incl. Remarks: Regarded as a synonym of Malpolon moilensis by Trape & Mané (2006). Treated as a valid species herein, following Wallach, Williams & Boundy (2014), Chippaux & Jackson (2019), and the Reptile Database, based on their correspondance with L. Chirio (viewed January 1st, 2023).
Distribution: Niger.

Remarks: Reported from Zanzibar (e.g., Loveridge 1957; Chirio & Ineich 1991) and Uganda (e.g., Chirio & Ineich 1991), but presence of the species in these places is regarded as doubtful, since they were not mentioned in subsequent publications (e.g. Spawls, Beraduccii & Malonza 2014; Spawls, Howell, Hinkel & Menegon 2018).
Distribution: Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania.
