Remarks: Revalidated as a separate species by Papenfuss, Macey & Schulte (2001) and Leavitt, Bezy, Crandall & Sites (2007). Not listed by Brennan & Holycross (2006), who may have retained it as a subspecies of vigilis, as did Crother, Boundy & al. (2003).

Remarks: The species arizonae, extorris, gilberti, sierrae, and wigginsi were previously regarded as subspecies of vigilis. Records of vigilis from Mexico refer to other species. Collins (1991) also suggested recognition of utahensis as a separate species, but later relisted it as a subspecies of vigilis (Collins 1997).
