Biodiversity of the family Gymnophthalmidae

Genus
Iphisa

Glossy Shade Tejus

Glanz-Schattentejus

Glans-skyggetejuer

1851 Iphisa Gray (type species: Iphisa elegans Gray 1851)
Contents: 7 species, of which 4 (57.1%) are endemic.
Endemism: 0% 100%
Distribution: Bolivia, Brazil (Acre, Amapa, Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Para, Rondonia), Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Surinam.

Iphisa brunopereira

Sao Pedro Glossy Shade Teju

Sao-Pedro-Glanz-Schattenteju

Sao Pedro-glans-skyggeteju

2023 Iphisa brunopereira Mello, Recoder, Fouquet, Rodrigues & Nunes

Remarks: Previously regarded as a population of elegans. Specimens from Ecuador and Peru, tentatively assigned to brunopereira by Mello, Recoder, Fouquet, Rodrigues & Nunes (2023), need molecular confirmation. These authors also listed paratypes from Mato Grosso, but plotted no localities in their map, suggesting that the assignment of these specimens to this species needs verification.
Distribution: Brazil (Amazonas, Mato Grosso), Colombia, Ecuador.

Iphisa dorothy

Eastern Glossy Shade Teju

Östliche Glanz-Schattenteju

Østlig Glans-skyggeteju

2023 Iphisa dorothy Mello, Recoder, Fouquet, Rodrigues & Nunes

Remarks: Previously regarded as a population of elegans.
Distribution: Brazil (Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Para).

Iphisa elegans

Northern Glossy Shade Teju

Nördliche Glanz-Schattenteju

Nordlig Glans-skyggeteju

1851 Iphisa elegans Gray

Remarks: Previously included soini and the populations now assigned to brunopereira, dorothy, munduruku, pellegrino, and surui (Mello, Recoder, Fouquet, Rodrigues & Nunes 2023). Colombian records are tentatively assigned to brunopereira.
Distribution: Brazil (Amapa, Amazonas, Para, Rondonia), French Guiana, Guyana, Surinam.

Iphisa munduruku

Abacaxis Glossy Shade Teju

Abacaxis Glanz-Schattenteju

Abacaxis Glans-skyggeteju

2023 Iphisa munduruku Mello, Recoder, Fouquet, Rodrigues & Nunes

Remarks: Previously regarded as a population of elegans.
Distribution: Brazil (Amazonas).

Iphisa pellegrino

Moiobamba Glossy Shade Teju

Moiobamba-Glanz-Schattenteju

Moiobamba-glans-skyggeteju

2023 Iphisa pellegrino Mello, Recoder, Fouquet, Rodrigues & Nunes

Remarks: Previously regarded as a population of elegans.
Distribution: Brazil (Amazonas, Rondonia).

Iphisa soini

Western Glossy Shade Teju

Westlische Glanz-Schattenteju

Vestlig Glans-skyggeteju

1974 Iphisa elegans soini Dixon
Iphisa soini Mello, Recoder, Fouquet, Rodrigues & Nunes 2023

Remarks: Previously regarded as a subspecies of elegans (e.g., Dixon 1974). Raised to species status by Mello, Recoder, Fouquet, Rodrigues & Nunes (2023). Provisionally considered present in Amazonas, Brazil, and Bolivia (paratype), however, this needs confirmation by molecular studies.
Distribution: Bolivia, Brazil (Acre, Amazonas), Ecuador, Peru.

Iphisa surui

Southern Glossy Shade Teju

Südliche Glanz-Schattenteju

Sydlig Glans-skyggeteju

2023 Iphisa surui Mello, Recoder, Fouquet, Rodrigues & Nunes

Remarks: Previously regarded as a population of elegans.
Distribution: Brazil (Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Rondonia).
