Remarks: Considered a synonym of ruber by McDowell (1974), followed by Wynn & Leviton (1993), however, McDiarmid, Campbell & Touré (1999) and Ferner, Brown, Sison & Kennedy (2001) retained the species as valid, pending a future revision. Also Hahn (1980) and Iskandar & Colijn (2001) listed it as a valid species. Ferner, Brown, Sison & Kennedy (2001) indicated that records of ruber from Cebu, Negros, Panay, and Masbate most likely refer to hypogius, a suggestion which is tentatively followed here in lack of a revision.

Ferner, Brown, Sison & Kennedy (2001) suggested that records from Cebu, Negros, Panay, and Masbate refer to hypogius. Leviton, Siler, Weinell & Brown (2018) did not include Cebu, Marinduque, and Negros in the distribution of the species.
Distribution: Philippines (Cebu, Luzon, Marinduque, Mindoro, Negros, Samar).

1863 Typhlops dichromatus Jan (Hahn 1980)
1867 Typhlops petersii Steindachner (Hahn 1980)

Remarks: Presence in Sulawesi needs confirmation, since only a single voucher specimen is available from the island (De Lang & Vogel 2005). Although the grammatical gender of Malayotyphlops is masculine, the ending of the specific epithet, ruficauda, should not be changed to "-us", since it is a noun in aposition, not an adjective (see Böhme & Denzer 2019).
Distribution: Philippines (Luzon, Marinduque, Sibuyan, Tablas).
