Remarks: Previously regarded as a synonym of brevirostris (e.g., Rasmussen 1989), which is now considered a synonym of duchesnei. Revalidated as a separate species by Trape & Baldé (2014). Most older records of brevirostris are now assigned to guineensis.

Remarks: Previously regarded as the western populations of weileri. Records of weileri from Togo are provisionally assigned to riparia, but this needs confirmation (Trape, Mediannikov & Baldé 2023).

Remarks: Previously included kageleri. The only record of typical shrevei from Tanzania is of uncertain status, so shrevei is no longer considered occurring in the country (Branch, Bayliss, Bittencourt-Silva, Conradie, Engelbrecht, Loader, Menegon, Nanvonamuquitxo & Tolley 2019).

Remarks: A photographic record from Congo-Kinshasa (Chippaux & Jackson 2019) is believed to represent weileri (Pauwels & Brecko 2020). No other references have been found to support the presence of underwoodi in the country.
