Endemism: 0% 100%
Other common names:
Ptyas (pre-2016 use): Giant Rat Snakes (Asian Rat Snakes)
Cyclophiops: Oriental Green Snakes
Remarks:
Status of Zaocys is uncertain (see discussion in David & Das 2004).
Most recent publications have synonymized Zaocys with Ptyas
(e.g., David & Vogel 1996; Lazell 1998; Whitaker & Captain 2004; David, Cox, Pauwels, Chanhome & Thirakhupt 2004; Das 2010; Wallach, Williams & Boundy 2014),
but Zaocys may prove valid (David, Cox, Pauwels, Chanhome & Thirakhupt 2004), and some authors still treat it as such (e.g., Zaher, Grazziotin, Cadle, Murphy, Moura-Leite & Bonatto 2009).
Lazell, Keirans & Samuelson (1991) and Lazell (1998) included both Ptyas and Zaocys in a greatly expanded
Coluber, however, most subsequent works have retained Ptyas as a valid genus
(e.g., Pinou & Dowling 2000; Wallach, Williams & Boundy 2014).
David & Das (2004) noted that the grammatical gender of Ptyas is feminine.
