Remarks: Previously included in Testudo (e.g., Wermuth & Mertens 1977).
Distribution: S. Asia, Sulawesi.
Reported from: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China (Guangxi), India (Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal), Indonesia (Sulawesi), Laos, Malaysia (West Malaysia [incl. Langkawi Archipelago (incl. Penang Island)]), Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam.

Remarks: Presence in Yunnan needs confirmation, since all records from there are based on market animals (Lau & Shi 2000).

Remarks: Previously included travancorica. Although originally described from Halmahera, the presence of forsteni in this island is considered doubtful (Koch 2012).
