Remarks:
Previously included togoensis, to which species records from West Africa refer. Wallach, Williams & Boundy (2014) mistakenly placed acutus in the genus
Psammophis, noting that it had been assigned to that genus by Kelly, Barker, Villet, Broadley & Branch (2008), but in fact, these authors assigned the species to the genus Psammophylax.
Distribution:
Angola,
Burundi,
Congo-Brazzaville,
Congo-Kinshasa,
Malawi,
Rwanda,
Tanzania,
Zambia.

separate species, following recent works (e.g., Chirio & LeBreton 2007, Segniagbeto, Trape, David, Ohler, Dubois & Glitho 2011; Wallach, Williams & Boundy 2014).
Validity confirmed by Keates, Conradie, Greenbaum & Edwards (2019).
