In West Africa, character differences between fuliginosus and lineatus are quite constant, but more than one species may be covering under the name lineatus, especially in Central Africa (Segniagbeto, Trape, David, Ohler, Dubois & Glitho 2011). Records from Gabon refer to littoralis (Pauwels, Chirio, Neil, Berry, Texier & Rosin 2017). Records from Angola refer to angolensis or variegatus (Marques, Ceríaco, Blackburn & Bauer 2018).
