Remarks:
Previously regarded as a subfamily of the family
Emydidae
and referred to as Batagurinae. Later, the subfamily was given status as a separate family as Bataguridae (Gaffney & Meylan 1988). Bour & Dubois (1986) demonstrated that the name Geoemydidae has precedence over Bataguridae.
