Remarks: Previously included Pholidobolus dicrus and P. vertebralis. The nominal genus Pantodactylus was regarded as a synonym of Cercosaura (e.g., Doan 2003), then revalidated by Goicoechea, Frost, Riva, Pellegrino, Sites, Rodrigues & Padial (2016), but most recently transferred back as a synonym of Cercosaura again by Sánchez-Pacheco, Torres-Carvajal, Aguirre-Peñafiel, Nunes, Verrastro, Rivas, Rodrigues, Grant & Murphy (2017).

Remarks: Montanucci (1973) regarded anomala as a species of uncertain status, not belonging to the genus Pholidobolus. Reeder (1996) regarded the generic allocation to Pholidobolus as correct and revalidated the species. Mamani, Chaparro, Correa, Alarcón, Salas & Catenazzi (2020) showed that the species is nested within Cercosaura and reassigned it to this genus.

Remarks: Previously included oshaughnessyi. The specific epithet, argulus, is a noun. For this reason, it is not changed to argula to reflect the grammatical gender of Cercosaura, which is feminine (Costa & Bérnils 2018).

Remarks: Avila-Pires (1995) revalidated oshaughnessyi as a separate species, followed by some (e.g., Avila-Pires, Vitt, Sartorius & Zani 2009), but most works have regarded it as a synonym of argulus (e.g., Peters & Donoso-Barros 1970; Uzzell 1970; Hoogmoed 1973; Uzzell 1973; Doan 2003; Doan & Lamar 2012). Not mentioned for French Guiana by Kuijpers (2024). Torres-Carvajal, Lobos & Venegas (2015) confirmed the validity of oshaughnessyi.
