Gerrhosaurus intermedius Bates, Tolley, Edwards, Davids, Silva & Branch 2013 |
Remarks:
Previously regarded as a synonym of nigrolineatus (e.g., Loveridge 1942; Wermuth 1968). Revalidated as a separate species by Bates, Tolley, Edwards, Davids, Silva & Branch (2013). Consists of the populations which used to be regarded as the eastern and southern populations of nigrolineatus, however, the exact species boundary between intermedius and nigrolineatus in Angola, Botswana, Congo-Kinshasa, Namibia, and Zambia, still needs to be determined (Bates, Tolley, Edwards, Davids, Silva & Branch 2013). These populations are here provisionally retained as nigrolineatus.
Distribution:
Botswana,
Kenya,
Malawi,
Mozambique,
Namibia,
Rwanda,
South Africa
(Limpopo,

Gerrhosaurus multilineatus Bocage |
Remarks:
Status uncertain. Regarded as a synonym of nigrolineatus in some works (e.g., Boulenger 1887; Wermuth 1968). Broadley (1999) noted that the taxon Gerrhosaurus multilineatus Bocage 1866 is based on a hybrid specimen and therefore considered the name unavailable, which, however, it is not, even if based on a hybrid (Bates, Tolley, Edwards, Davids, Silva & Branch 2013). See the latter authors for further notes on the status of multilineatus.
Distribution:
Angola.

Remarks:
Previously included intermedius. The exact species boundaries between intermedius and nigrolineatus in Angola, Botswana, Congo-Kinshasa, Namibia and Zambia still need to be determined (Bates, Tolley, Edwards, Davids, Silva & Branch 2013). These populations are here provisionally retained as nigrolineatus.
