Remarks: This family was previously considered a subfamily of Colubridae (e.g., Goin, Goin & Zug 1978; Voris, Alfaro, Karns, Starnes, Thompson & Murphy 2002). Most works now treat it as a separate family, Homalopsidae (e.g., Murphy 2007; Zaher, Grazziotin, Cadle, Murphy, Moura-Leite & Bonatto 2009; Murphy & Voris 2014; Vitt & Caldwell 2014).

Distribution:  S. Asia, Malay Archipelago, Australia, W. Pacific.
