Remarks: Previously included bilineatus, nigrotaeniatus, philippinus, and suluensis. Some older records of intestinalis may represent to nigrotaeniatus (Fukuyama, Vogel, Matsui, Eto, Munir, Hossman, Hamidy & Nishikawa 2020). Formerly placed in a separate genus, Maticora, along with bivirgatus. Presence in Sulawesi needs confirmation, since only a few voucher specimens are available from the island (De Lang & Vogel 2005).
Introduced to: Indonesia (Sulawesi).
Distribution: Brunei, Indonesia (Bali, Bangka, Belitung, Java, Kalimantan, Nias, Riau Islands, Siberut, Sumatra), Malaysia (Sabah, Sarawak, West Malaysia [incl. Seribuat Archipelago (incl. Tioman)]), Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam.

Remarks: Ganesh & Ramanujam (2014) noted that nigrescens is a species complex, and that pentalineatus is a valid species, although they did not formally revalidate the taxon. The name Striped Coral Snake should be avoided, since it is also used for Sinomicrurus japonicus.
