Records of browni from Honduras refer to nigrocinctus.
Presence in Puebla is regarded as unconfirmed, although mentioned to occur in the state by Campbell & Lamar (2004), however, the authors did not plot any localities
in their distribution map, and the species was not included for Puebla by Woolrich-Piña, García-Padilla, DeSantis, Johnson, Mata-Silva & Wilson (2017) in their
work on the herpetofauna of the state.
Smith & Chrapliwy's (1958) paratype of proximans from Jalisco has later been re-identified as M. distans zweifeli (J. Reyes-Velasco, pers. comm., Oct. 9, 2012).
