The Guerrero population previously included in ornata is now assigned to venusta (Parham, Papenfuss, Buskirk, Parra-Olea, Chen & Simison 2015). Included for Jalisco on the basis of several authors (e.g., Smith & Taylor 1950; Zweifel 1959; Legler & Vogt 2013; Casas-Andreu, Cupul-Magaña & Chávez-Á. 2015; Cruz-Sáenz, Muñoz-Nolasco, Mata-Silva, Johnson, García-Padilla & Wilson 2017; Rhodin Iverson Bour Fritz Georges Shaffer Dijk 2017), although Chávez-Avila, Casas-Andreu, García-Aguayo, Cifuentes-Lemus & Cupul-Magaña (2015) condidered the presence of the species in the state as unconfirmed.

Remarks: Several species and subspecies of this genus were previously regarded as subspecies of scripta (e.g., Wermuth & Mertens 1977; Iverson 1985). Records from Mexico, Central America, and South America refer to these other species. In much of the older literature, the subspecies elegans and troostii were confused (Fritz & Havas 2006).

Remarks: The Bahaman populations may represent prehistoric introductions (Seidel 1988; Henderson & Powell 2009; Dijk, Iverson, Rhodin, Shaffer & Bour 2014). The species is herein tentatively regarded as a Jamaican endemic.
